MEET THE STAFF!
Steve L. Lakey
Steve was an Air Traffic Controller for nearly 10 years, beginning his career with the US Army, then at LAX, and eventually in Palmdale, California where he was the CIC (Controller In Charge) during the landing of the first Space Shuttle mission. In February of 1994, his interests turned to fire gear. He opened doors and cleaned his very first turn-out set for the Portland Fire Department, and has been a force in the industry ever since. About a year later, he realized a need for a sofware program that could help him with his business and that of his customers. The as yet un-named Crossed Flags Tracking System was born, and has since evolved, as it will continue to evolve, into a premiere software suite to not only aid Northwest Safety Clean in its business practices, but as a valuable tool to fire departments everywhere. A patriotic man, in 1996 Steve offered to clean a flag for the VFW Post #1. He loved the feeling it gave him so much that he has cleaned American, MIA, and POW Flags, FREE OF CHARGE, ever since. He and his family are long time residents of the Portland area.

Steven C. Lakey
Steven Lakey, has been with the family business since 1993. He originally learned about fabric care and maintenance from managing the family dry cleaning business. When Dad partnered with retired Portland Chief Rod Martin to begin performing PPE maintenance, Steven learned all the in's and out's of the fire protection industry. As a hands-on part of the production floor, Steven realized a strong need for a way to track the miriad of NFPA requirements. He and Big Steve began collaborating with several administrative and logistic personnel from various fire departments to also find out their needs for such a program. The creation and ongoing evolution of Crossed Flags Tracking System now provides in-depth record keeping tools while keeping Northwest Safety Clean's facility the fastest in turn-around times, unmatched by anyone else in the industry.
